Our Mission
A single seed can become a field.
Sonbola — سنبلة — means an ear of wheat: and grain that, given care, feeds a whole community. We are educators, parents and neighbours working inside Gaza to keep learning alive.
Why education matters
When schooling stops, children lose more than lessons — they lose routine, safety and a sense of the future. We help them keep going.

Every space is run with local teachers and families who know their children by name. Programs are built with the community, not for it.

My son Jadou is nine years old. When we were displaced from the north to the south, he made the whole journey on foot, barefoot, carrying his little brother on his head. After that, he could hardly speak — the fear had taken hold of him completely. At Sunbola, the teachers were patient with him, day after day, until he began to speak again. Today he can read and write, and he is a child again. I am so happy with what they gave him back.

A day inside Sunbola Space
Six days a week, up to 600 children aged 5 to 16, many displaced, out of school, or affected by trauma, come through the door at Sunbola Space in Al-Zawaida, Gaza: six 24m² classroom tents and one 48m² activity tent inside a fully enclosed, secured 500m² compound. The day opens with a welcome and recreational activity, moves into core literacy, numeracy and English lessons, pauses for a shared meal, and continues into talent sessions drawing, singing, acting, poetry, podcasting and sport, before closing with psychosocial support and group games. A team of 11 teachers, 2 facilitators, a caretaker and site staff run every session. It's a simple structure built around one goal: give children back a routine, a skill and a safe place to be children again.

Sunbola operates within communities in Gaza, working alongside local families, teachers and volunteers who know their children by name.

How do you keep children safe?+
Every activity, facilitator and space follows Sunbola’s written Child Protection and PSEA policies. Safeguarding comes before programming.
Is Sunbola registered and how is it governed?+
Yes. Sunbola is a registered organization and its learning space is licensed by the Directorate of Education. It follows approved educational curricula and implements psychosocial support programs for children in challenging circumstances.
Will I receive updates?+
Yes. We share program updates and reporting with our donor community.
